Quickstart

This quickstart takes you from an empty console to an agent you can hold a conversation with. It uses the emulator, so nothing reaches a phone and no channel setup is needed.

Connecting a real channel takes days to weeks of carrier or platform verification, and it is covered separately in Connect a channel.

Before you begin

  • Access to an Anychat workspace, with at least the editor role. Workspaces are created by Anychat, and an owner can add you to an existing one. See Workspaces and access.
  • The website URL of the business the agent represents.

1. Create the agent

In the console, open Agent Studio and click New agent. Give it a name, pick an agent template, and paste the company website URL.

Anychat crawls the site in the background and fills in identity and branding, a Things catalog from the products or services it finds, and Sources from the content pages. Identity and Things land first, and the Sources finish a minute or two later.

2. Check identity and personality

Open Build · Behavior · Identity and confirm the name, company description, logo, brand color, and contact details. Make the phone number and email real: they are what the agent hands out when someone asks for a human.

Open Personality and click Choose personality to pick a voice, or edit the text directly.

3. Review what the import brought in

Open Build · Knowledge. A crawl picks up what the site says, which is not always what you want the agent to say.

Check the Things catalog, since the agent describes only what is written there. Add any Sources the website did not cover, such as price sheets or policy documents.

4. Talk to it

Press ⌘⇧E, or open Test · Emulator. Pick a persona and start a conversation.

The emulator renders your agent's replies the way RCS, WhatsApp, or SMS would. Everything here is Sandbox: reads are real, and every write is captured and shown rather than performed.

5. Read a turn record

In the emulator, open Inspect turns on the conversation. The record shows which Playbook was chosen and why, what the agent read, what it looked up, which Rules fired, and what was sent.

This is the fastest way to understand why an agent said what it said. See How a turn works.
